Homeowner shoots and kills intruder
robesonian.com LUMBERTON — A homeowner shot and killed an intruder on Monday, according to Robeson County Sheriff Kenneth Sealey, in one of two unrelated shootings that left someone dead. The first death was reported at about 9 a.m. at a home on the 2400 block of Dixie Drive in Red Springs, where a break-in turned deadly. According to Sealey, the homeowner, Sanford Hardin, was working at a chicken farm down the road when his wife called him and told him there was a suspicious vehicle at their home. Hardin returned home and found a brown and gray vehicle at the house and a man sleeping inside, Sealey said. He tapped on the window, the man woke up and “sped away,” according to Sealey. According to Sealey, when Hardin went inside the house, he saw two people wearing masks. One of the intruders shot at Hardin, striking him in the shoulder. Sanford fired back, striking and killing 28-year-old Randal Dwight Hardin Jr., Sealey said. The other intruder fled, Sealey said.
